Monument of resilience

The project
The project aims to capture the journey and emotions of people all over the world during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic and tell the stories of lives lost and sacrifice made by Society. This project highlights the life lesson that this pandemic taught us including the importance of nature, self-sufficiency, fragile economic system and also the inequality existing in the current world model. The reason behind this architectural monument was to remind ourselves and our future of this journey and to justify the new NORMAL post-COVID-19.

5 stages of greif
The design aims to express the 5 stages of grief that everyone went through by exploring the ideas of materials and form of the design, all the while reflecting the worlds view through the chrome dome.

Denial
In the beginning, we were in denial, unaware of the danger or the scale in which it could affect us, staying in the comfort of our denial that something bad could happen to us.
Anger
As the events unfolded and restrictions were being put on our day to day lives all we could feel was anger and resentment.
Bargaining
We were all living the life of bargain, the bargain between restriction and openness, staying in and staying out, life and death, everything was a way to balance things out.
Depression
On every one of us is the veil of depression, for some its the restrictions and for others it is the loss, for some more than the others but surely for everyone.
Acceptance
With all the loss and restriction finally it is the time to accept the way our lives have changed, while they may look normal, it is still the new normal.

design elements
The various elements of the design such as the placement of the entry and the exit, the walls the landscaping and the chrome dome all represent the various aspects of the life during the pandemic.

The entry & the exit
The entry is located on a higher point to represent the view of man being on top of nature and at the top of the food chain but as the journey ends he becomes a part of nature and walks closer to it than walking above it.
The walls
The walls reflect our knowledge and view of the situation that started. The descending wall height is to showcase our increasing awareness of the situation.
The landscape
The landscape patches at the entrance and the exit of the structure are to represent the congestions and irregularities thrust upon our regular day to day lives. They are also meant to showcase the social distancing faced by people in their journey.
The Dome
The central chrome dome is to represent the world and how we came to see it through a screen. It is also to showcase peoples own reflection, a way to see our skewed lives.
